From 15th to 17th May 2026, Cattolica will become the beating heart of Italian cycling with the Granfondo Squali 2026 – Cattolica & Gabicce Mare, an unmissable event that promises thrills and challenges for cycling enthusiasts. This competition, one of the most important in Italy, will be held for the 11th time, confirming its reputation as one of the most popular and well-attended amateur sporting events.

Organised annually by Velo Club Cattolica and Ciclo Team 2001 Gabicce Mare, with the support of the Municipality of Cattolica, the Granfondo Squali is an event that celebrates a passion for cycling and involves cyclists of all levels. From amateur races to routes for families and enthusiasts, the event is designed for anyone who wants to put themselves to the test.
The values of the Granfondo Squali 2026: Local area, safety and sustainability
The Granfondo Squali is built on three pillars:
Showcasing the Local Area: The race route passes through some of the most picturesque spots along the Romagna coast.
Safety: Particular attention is paid to the safety of participants, ensuring an event that complies with regulations and provides a worry-free experience for all cyclists.

The Granfondo Routes: Challenge and scenery
Participants will have the choice of three routes to suit different abilities and preferences:
The Long Route (up to 120 km) is the most challenging and is best suited to experienced cyclists. With demanding climbs and breathtaking elevation gains, it is a real test for cycling enthusiasts.
The Medium Route (approx. 85 km) offers a moderate yet no less fascinating challenge, passing through the medieval village of Mondaino and San Bartolo Park.
Squalo 46, a short 46 km route designed for beginners and tourists who want to enjoy the beauty of the area without the pressure of the stopwatch. A relaxing yet exciting route that celebrates the connection with Valentino Rossi and his hometown, Tavullia.
More than just a race: Granfondo Squali 2026 is a weekend of celebration
The Granfondo Squali is much more than a race. It is an opportunity to enjoy a full three days of celebration, sport and tourism. Whilst the cyclists tackle the route, family and friends can take part in numerous side events, such as visits to the Cattolica Aquarium, hiking and food and wine tours.
The Shark Arena exhibition park, located within the Cattolica Aquarium Park, will host over 70 exhibitors, showcasing products and equipment dedicated to the world of cycling.
Guests and celebrations
Over the years, the Granfondo Squali has welcomed numerous distinguished guests, including F1 driver Giancarlo Fisichella, cyclist Michele Bartoli, motorcyclist Niccolò Antonelli, and the legendary Vincenzo Nibali, who has contributed to this event that combines sport, passion and tradition.
A growing event: Granfondo Squali 2025
With 3,200 participants in the 2025 edition, the Granfondo Squali has established itself as one of Italy’s most important amateur cycling events. The 2025 edition saw a 37% increase compared to 2022, with tourist participation reaching 10,000 attendees. The event has established itself as a showcase of excellence for cycling, attracting enthusiasts from all over Italy and abroad.
Squali Gravel: An adventure in nature
Saturday 16th May 2026 will see the Squali Gravel take place. This competition will follow the picturesque route of the Conca Valley, allowing participants to immerse themselves in nature as they cycle along dirt tracks. Two routes will be available:
Toro Tour (80 km, 1,650 m elevation gain): a challenging adventure through valleys, medieval fortresses and forests.
Verdesca Tour (45 km, 700 m elevation gain): a more accessible route, ideal for those seeking a moderate challenge whilst still immersed in the heart of nature.
