Cubia’s eyes

Cattolica has its symbol : the Cubia Eyes.

It was painted on every Boats Bow, and the painted eyes were intended to help the Ship to “see”, to frighten enemies, and to protect Riverboats from Monsters or Evil Spirits. It represent a very ancient Pagan symbol also used by Phoenicians.

However, the name “Cubia Eyes” is not entirely correct, since Cubia was the hole where the anchor chain ran, and the eyes were painted including that hole as the pupil.
