Tipi da Spiaggia – 200 years of life at the Sea is a photographic exhibition dedicated to seaside tourism in Cattolica.
From 9 June 2023 to 10 September 2023, a photographic retrospective dedicated to life at the seaside: views, pastimes and beach types as well as lifeguards will be on show at the Cattolica Tourism Building in Via Mancini 24.
In fact, 200 years have passed since Luciano Bonaparte left Rimini for the Cattolica sea in August 1823.
Christened as Cattolica’s first ‘bathing man’, he is considered the forerunner of a new tourism that was to change the layout of the Cattolica Riviera.
The photographs, all dated around the first decades of the twentieth century, are intended to show the evolution of bathing views of Cattolica’s beach, through the transformation of many private villas into accommodation facilities designed to satisfy an ever-increasing demand for accommodation and comfort on the part of bathers.
This need is increasingly intertwined with the worldliness of holidaying, thus giving a powerful boost to bathing.
From the beneficial virtues of water and air, little by little, arose the desire to experience the beach simply as a delightful place to pass the time, to stroll, to play sports, to enjoy moments of refreshment, relaxation, leisure and fun. These scenes of seaside life meet beach types in a roundup of posed characters eager to stop time at the seaside and immortalise happy memories.
The exhibition has free admission and is open daily, Monday to Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 6.30 p.m.
